Martin Roberts sparked frenzy among his huge fan base when he revealed on Twitter (X) that he had something special planned for his 20th anniversary on Homes Under The Hammer.

The 60-year-old star wrote in view of almost 55,000 followers: “I don’t want to start too much of a rumour mill, but just to say we are finalising something very VERY exciting to celebrate the anniversary of an incredible 20 years of Homes under the Hammer in November. Watch this space!”

This year might just be one of the most difficult he’s encountered since joining the show, after battling a health scare that had left him fearing he could die “at any minute” and his company going into administration.

However, in spite of that, he had a broad grin on his face in the photo he uploaded to Twitter, and when a fan enquired about whether he was well in the comments, he replied with a heart emoji.

Followers attempted to guess what the surprise could be, with one quizzing: “Is Dave Gorman coming on the show?”

Giving nothing away, Martin simply replied: “I would LOVE that.”

Another fan attempted to guess, joking: “An hour special of you playing the piano?”

Martin responded equally playfully, writing: “You’ve been told by an insider?”, only for the fan to launch into laughter and chuckle: “I should’ve put a spoilers warning!”

A third follower asked: “Is it a house they said they would turn around in 3 months for 2k that actually took 20 years and a billion pounds?”, only for the property expert to play along and cheekily ask: “How did you know?”

Asked if he was moving to Wales full time, he responded: “You never know!”

“Congratulations on 20 Years of Homes under the Hammer. Is Lucy [Alexander] coming back for this anniversary episode?” another fan asked, but Martin was unwilling to be drawn on that topic, replying simply with a heart emoji.

He was slightly more forthcoming when asked whether the special episode would include “a lot of magnolia paint”, admitting: “It does!”

Although Martin appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and stripped off for Strictly’s The Full Monty to raise awareness about cancer in recent years, he is perhaps best known for his role as resident property expert on Homes Under The Hammer – and fans are excited to see what the special episode has in store.
