Monarch: Legacy of Monsters\u2019 creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction teased the series\u2019 huge mystery that\u2019s almost as big as the iconic rampaging reptile at the center of the action.<\/p>\n

Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell both portray Army officer Lee Shaw in the decades-spanning Apple TV+ drama, investigating disasters caused by Godzilla and other titans across the globe.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Black and Fraction revealed the Hollywood Russells were eager to work on a project together before they signed on.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur brilliant casting director, Ronna Kress, suggested to us, \u2018Hey, Kurt and Wyatt Russell have been looking for a thing to do together\u2019,\u201d Fraction said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we just thought, right away, \u2018Oh, that would be great\u2019.\u201d \u201cYeah, sold!\u201d Black chimed in.<\/p>\n

Fraction went on: \u201cWe met with them, talked about the character, and could see them get excited.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019d been offered father and son a lot, but never the same person. And, not to speak for them, but the challenge of building one guy across the span of time together let them flex acting muscles they normally don\u2019t get to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

The action of Monarch kicks off after Godzilla\u2019s attack on San Francisco in 2014 as depicted in Gareth Edwards\u2019 American revamp from that year.<\/p>\n

Throughout the 10 episodes, it also cuts to Shaw\u2019s adventures in the 1950s, meaning 72-year-old Kurt\u2019s version of the character would be about 90 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe characters in the show comment on it,\u201d he went on to tease.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a secret, there is a mystery there. There\u2019s an explanation for why it is the way it is.<\/p>\n
