Lorraine Kelly has opened up about a scary situation where her pet pooch was left in a bad way after going through her bag and eating chocolate. The 64-year-old said her dog had to be rushed to the vets and put on a drip after accidentally eating the sweet treat.

While speaking on Wednesday’s episode of her show, Lorraine told Dr Hilary Jones: “I had chocolates wrapped up in my bag as a present, it was inside my bag. She managed to get in there in the middle of the night, ate a whole bit of chocolate and was very, very ill indeed.

“So we had to rush her to the emergency room, the vets took such good care of her. They had to put her on a drip which is why she’s got that wee bandage on then. It was touch and go and really, really frightening,” the television presenter explained.

Lorraine then took the opportunity to thank Dr Hilary, 70, for helping her during the tough time. She continued: “You saw the state I was in, honestly thank you for helping me,” as Dr Hilary told her she was welcome.

“This time of year, you’ve gotta be so, so careful cos they’re into everything. You’ve gotta be careful all year round but chocolate’s really bad,” the mum-of-one expressed.
