Leona Lewis discusses the importance of the amfAR Gala Venezia 2023

Leona Lewis wowed the world at the amFAR gala in Venice over the weekend, stealing the show in not one but two glamorous gowns.

The 38-year-old X Factor winner took to the stage in a show-stopping sparkling silver gown, with a myriad of sequins which dazzled under the lights.

Leona seemed as if she’d been inspired by vintage Hollywood, as she paired her cleavage-boosting strapless dress with a matching trailing cape.

She accessorised with flashy diamond earrings as she stunned the crowds by belting out hit after hit from her famous repertoire.

All eyes were on her as she also serenaded guests with a mesmerising rendition of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’, while accompanied by a live orchestra.

Earlier in the evening, she’d walked the red carpet in an eye-popping bright red Bardot-style dress with unusually shaped sleeves, but for many, it was her silver number that seemed to have ultimately stolen the show.

The Bleeding Love singer, who shared attention with other performing guests such as Rita Ora, was attending one of amfAR’s famous galas, which are intended to raise funds for AIDS research.

amfAR is held by The Foundation for AIDS Research, which has so far invested over $635 million in its programs, and the organisation hopes to continue the progress that has been made.

This particular gala was held at the Venice Film Festival, while other bashes took place in Antibes on the French Riviera and Palm Beach in Florida earlier in the year.

The not-for-profit organisation states that it directs funds towards “AIDS research, HIV prevention treatment education, and the advocacy of AIDS-related public policy”.

Leona, who launched her career when she won the 2006 series of X Factor aged just 21, seemed to be in high spirits for the event.

It came soon after she and husband Dennis Jauch – a German choreographer and art director – publicly marked the 13 year anniversary of their love.

The pair have been married since 2019, while they welcomed their baby daughter Carmel Allegra 14 months ago.

Leona took to Instagram to honour their anniversary back in July, gushing: “13 years in love. Happy anniversary moon. The monsoon on our wedding day keeps bringing us all the love our hearts can hold!”

Meanwhile, Dennis shared a video from their wedding day on his own Instagram account, captioning the footage: “3 years of living on cloud 9. 4 years of being married to an angel. 1 year of being a dad to our little coco. I AM WHOLE!”

The pair first met when Dennis worked as Leona’s backing dancer and they fell for one another, eventually tying the knot at a romantic Tuscan vineyard.
