Les Dennis ‘clashes’ with Strictly star which caused ‘tension’ behind scenes

Les Dennis announced as first Strictly contestant to leave

Les Dennis reportedly “clashed” with his Strictly Come Dancing partner Nancy Xu in the lead-up to them becoming the first stars voted out of the BBC competition.

While sources say Les, 69, and Nancy, 32, “never really fell out” and were “always respectful to each other”, they reportedly found it “impossible to gel” due to the comedian’s “mood” during their training sessions.

They claimed to The Sun: “Les was often moody and erratic because he found the training a very draining process. He’s almost 70 so was knackered just two weeks in and this led to clashes with Nancy.

“His mood didn’t match Nancy’s enthusiasm and positivity which created tension and discord in the studio.

“Les became frustrated at the slightest misstep and would lose his cool, while Nancy was very patient and encouraging which only rankled Les even more. They were just polar opposites.”

“I really appreciate and understand the judge’s point of view, thank you so much (To Shirley) for giving me a 10 for entertainment. I hope I’ve entertained, that’s what I came here for.”

Thanking show bosses, the Family Fortunes presenter added: “Strictly is the best and the people who put this on, you’re just all amazing!”

Nancy then chimed in: “It’s been a journey. This is such a short but sweet journey. A lot of challenges as we all know, but to see you every day improve yourself. I respect you so, so much.”

Strictly Come Dancing will continue on Saturday where the remaining contestants will perform routines from the silver screen in Movie Week.

It will air at 6.20pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
