The Crown: Susanna discusses Princess Diana crash scene
Josh O’Connor has reflected on his time playing Prince Charles, before he was crowned King, in the hit series The Crown.
The actor took on the role from 2019 to 2020, portraying the beginning of Charles’ relationship with Princess Diana and their troubled marriage which lasted five years.
One of his standout episodes centres on Charles’ investiture as the Prince of Wales in 1969, in which a dress rehearsal prepares him for the big moment.
Josh’s stint on the show led him to win a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award as well as newfound fame.
In a new interview, the 33-year-old discussed what it was like having a new audience that recognised him following the Netflix drama.

The actor told GQ Magazine: “It was a f***ed-up time.
“I found it so impactful, people stopping me. You want to be in stuff that’s successful and seen, but I think sometimes we underestimate how powerful even a slight loss of anonymity can be.”
According to the publication, Josh initially didn’t want to audition for the part due to him being a republican.
After reading the script, however, he changed his mind and particularly liked the scene in which Charles realises that his life cannot have meaning until his mother dies.
Despite getting a taste of the royal life though, this didn’t cause him to backtrack on his royal views and he didn’t tune into the newly crowned King’s Coronation back in May.

He said of the big moment: “I felt really happy for [Charles] because it must feel like his whole life has led to that moment.
“I’m sure it’s the icing on the cake to put a really expensive hat on in a nice cathedral.”
Last year, the actor said his time on the show was “the most dreamy job imaginable” as he praised the cast.
“We had the time of our lives and playing Charles is a special role,” he added in a chat with E!
Portraying the evolving events of the royal, he continued, was “a real treat”.
Before his time on The Crown, Josh had supporting roles in Doctor Who in 2013 and Peaky Blinders the following year.
He had his breakthrough playing the lead character in Francis Lee’s 2017 romantic drama, God’s Own Country.
After portraying Charles, he has since gone on to star in the period dramas Emma and La Chimera.
