Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly gushed over Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola’s special bond as the pair continue to fuel romance rumours. During a discussion alongside co-host Claudia Winkleman on Strictly: It Takes Two, the presenters shared their thoughts on this year’s four remaining couples, ahead of the semi-finals this weekend.
When quizzed on Ellie and Vito, Tess likened the pair to “a brother and sister,” seemingly shutting down any thoughts of a romance. She told Strictly: It Takes Two host Fleur East: “They genuinely are just like a family, aren’t they? Ellie and Vito are like brother and sister, Bobby [Brazier] and Dianne [Buswell] and Annabel [Croft] and Johannes [Radebe] have got this – they’re going to be best friends forever.”
The presenter went on to say that Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin have “a really special bond” and that she and Claudia were “like the aunties just looking after everybody” behind-the-scenes. Later on in the discussion, Tess shared more thoughts on former Coronation Street actress Ella and Vito, telling Fleur the pair were “having so much fun”.
“And that’s a part of it for her, because she’s loving every second of the training room with Vito,” she added. “They get on so well, so it’s not like work for her! It’s like, ‘Yeah, give me another one, I’m loving this!'”
Claudia added: “I think with Ellie it’s her confidence. That’s sort of magic to watch. Do you remember when we first came?” Tess chimed in: “I don’t think she knows how good she is, still.”

Rumours of the pair being more than friends have heightened in recent weeks, particularly as Vito, 31, is often seen kissing Ellie, 22, after their routines. The professional dancer has also referred to the actress as his “baby” and “a diamond” in mushy Instagram posts, while Amanda Abbington also called them as a “couple” sparking further speculation.
The duo haven’t confirmed or denied they are dating when quizzed about their relationship status in recent interviews. Addressing their kisses, Ellie told OK! Magazine that they are just a sign of a deep friendship. She said: “It was only a kiss on the cheek. He gives me a kiss on the cheek every Saturday!”

Any denying they had ever kissed on the lips, she added: “It was definitely on the cheek.” In the same chat, Vito said he is “a very warm person” who likes a hug, adding they are “a great team”. Lorraine Kelly also quizzed the pair during a chat on her show earlier this month.
She said: “Of course, both of you are single and everybody wants a romance. You’re getting on incredibly well and whatever happens between you, clearly there’s a bond there. There’s a really, really good bond – you’re going to be friends forever, aren’t you?”
Vito went on to say Ellie’s family had become like his own and went on to praise her mum’s gravy. “If you’re eating a whole pot of Ellie’s mum’s gravy, I think the two of you have definitely got something very special,” Lorraine replied.
This weekend, each couple will perform two routines in the hope of making it through to the final in two weeks. Ellie and Vito will take on a Couple’s Choice routine to a Dua Lipa Medley as well as a Cha Cha to Mambo Italiano by Bette Midler.
Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday at 7.35pm on BBC One.
