Strictlys Oti Mabuse on daily pressure from in-laws over getting pregnant

Oti Mabuse announces pregnancy on her breakfast show

Strictly star Oti Mabuse announced her pregnancy on social media after “trying to conceive for a while” and getting to the point of giving up.

She had finally fallen pregnant naturally, when she least expected it – but the 33-year-old admitted that she’d been asked by her in-laws on a daily basis up to that point when she was going to start a family with their son.

“My in-laws asked everyday when we were going to become parents! EVERY DAY,” she exclaimed to her 665,000 followers on Instagram.

“I guess it’s their culture and their way of life. ‘Get married – have children right away’ – which at first was really weird for me but now I think I’m starting to see why.”

She emotionally continued: “Time is something we cannot create or keep for ourselves and when days are dark, it’s family and those close to you that really hold you down and give you something to fight for.”

Alongside a montage of family video clips featuring both her parents and Marius’, she explained: “I know my little one will have the best grandparents who won’t listen to us (I can guarantee that) but get spoilt silly, fed non stop, cuddled all day long and live the fullest and best life between African and European culture any kid could ask for.

“We spent July celebrating as a family already and it was truly magical!”

The on-screenstar then let fans into a secret about one reason why she was making the video reel.

“[It’s] so that when we need babysitting they’ll say yes with the biggest smiles,” she joked, punctuating her comment with tears of laughter emoji.

Meanwhile, she revealed that her own parents hadn’t been quite as concerned about if and when she’d get pregnant as others in her life.

“My mom and dad never once in 33 years asked me when I was going to start a family, they never put me under any pressure,” she wrote.

“Instead they supported my career and want of making something of myself. Financially setting myself up where I am independent and emotionally stable to handle being a mom.”

She then joked that she was still working on “the emotional part”.

Paying tribute to her parents, she continued of her decision to start her pregnancy journey: “It was also realising that our parents won’t live forever and I am who I am because of my mom and dad.

“I would want nothing more than to have them in my children’s life. To teach them values, skills and advice them how we were raised.”

She was inundated with support from her followers, including @kathrynstaggibclc, who wrote: “You can’t cuddle your baby too much, and having more arms and more people to love and cuddle is wonderful. As the saying goes it takes a village to raise a child!”

Although Oti has admitted she is now “living in leggings” for comfort, worrying about her changing looks, and fighting symptoms of nausea as she nurtures the growing life inside her belly, she’s still feeling positive and upbeat about welcoming the new arrival when the time comes.
