Amanda Holden’s ‘worst nightmare’ was realised when she made a major mistake at the airport.

The Heart FM star was preparing to fly abroad to film hit BBC series The Italian Job alongside co-star Alan Carr when she made a gut-wrenching mistake.

We’ve all had the panic of arriving at the airport and preparing to go through security when you get the jolt of Am I at the right airport? or Did I forget my passport? even when you looked at your boarding pass and passport just seconds before.

Unfortunately for Amanda, 52, she wasn’t so lucky – as she revealed she had accidentally packed her husband, Chris Hughes’, passport instead.

She shared the painful story with Heart FM co-hosts Jamie Theakston and Zoe Hardman via video chat, explaining she was supposed to fly from London City Airport but had to make a last-minute dash to Gatwick.

‘I got to City Airport and I opened my passport and it was my husband Chris’ blinking passport.’

Jamie was all of us in his reaction, as he gasped and said the idea of that happening gives him ‘goosebumps.’

Admitting it was her ‘worst nightmare,’ Amanda explained the friend she was travelling with flew to Italy as planned, while she dashed to Gatwick for a later flight – while at the same time someone was rushing to bring her her own passport.

While she eventually made it to Italy, it meant husband Chris got to have the ultimate ‘I told you so’ moment.

‘Before I left the house yesterday … my husband actually said “Do you have the right passport?,”‘ Amanda told Heart FM.

‘And I said, “Do you know what, stop treating me like one of the children!”‘

Amanda was then forced to humble herself by calling Chris and admitting, ‘I’ve got your passport.’

Chris got his own back later, as he called and joked: ‘Can I still treat you like one of the children?’

And as Amanda put it: ‘I just wanted to kill him that he was right.’

What makes it all the more frustrating for Amanda is that she’s no stranger to flying and likely has a routine around packing down pat.

The star has gone on multiple holidays this summer, both with her husband Chris and daughters Lexi, 17, and Hollie, 11.

One trip saw the mum join both of her daughters as well as her sister Debbie in Italy as part of Amanda’s filming for the popular renovation show The Italian Job.

And while Amanda may be furious that Chris was right about the passport – and he gets to gloat over the fact – the couple are as loved-up as ever, with Amanda admitting she’s looking forward to her kids moving out in the future so they can spend more time together.

She told the Mail Online she and Chris had enjoyed a holiday together that felt like their ‘third or fourth honeymoon,’ and that her 50s was the ‘happiest I’ve ever been.’
