Danny Brown has continued the rollout of Quaranta ahead of the album’s release on Friday, November 17. The Detroit rapper’s latest song is called “Jenn’s Terrific Vacation,” produced by Kassa Overall and inspired by the effects of gentrification on his hometown city.
The single arrived with an official music video shot entirely in black and white, providing a conceptual reference to Brown’s childhood and his relationship to Detroit as an adult.
Quaranta, meanwhile, has been in the works for a few years and features production from SKYWLKR, The Alchemist, Quelle Chris, Paul White and the Bruiser Brigade, along with lyric writing from Bruiser Wolf and MIKE. Brown wrote the project in 2021 during the pandemic lockdown but evidently didn’t release it right away. Instead, he put out a collaborative LP with JPEGMAFIA, Scaring the Hoes. The project is also landing a decade after his 2013 breakout project, XXX.
“I recorded most of it during quarantine. Definitely over 30, 40 songs,” Brown told Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe about the album in an interview. “We narrowed it, really, really narrowed it down to a solid 11. It’s just pretty much for me, it’s a legacy album, and it’s to close that chapter on my life, with what I was dealing with.”
“Especially, this is, to me it’s 10 years after XXX, after 30. Quaranta means 40 in Italian, and then it also sounded like quarantine a little bit, so that’s why I went with that.”
