I use a cardboard cutout of Danny DeVito to model my old clothes on Vinted – people love my sales technique

A Vinted seller has left customers in hysterics by using a Danny DeVito cut-out to bag sales and model women’s garments on the second-hand clothing app.

Gillian Belshaw, 35, from Clydebank near Glasgow, has seen her Vinted followers soar from just two to 1085 since she began donning the iconic American actor in her clothes.

The 35-year-old says Danny is a ‘great’ model and even admits one seller bought an item of clothing off her page simply because it was modelled by the 4ft 10 entertainer.

On her Vinted wardrobe, called ‘dannydevinto’, hilarious photos show the 78-year-old star modelling a variety of items including a chiffon halter neck dress and sleep eye mask.

In another snap the actor can be seen sporting a pair of pink pyjama bottoms on sale for £2.50 and grey bobble hat with a £1.50 price tag.

‘Danny’ is currently modelling 45 looks on the medical secretary Gillian’s Vinted wardrobe and she says she smiles every time she poses him up in another item of women’s clothing.

Gillian said: ‘I started using Danny [to sell my stuff on Vinted] and then about a week in, I was getting a lot of messages on Vinted saying how much they were cracking up at the photos of him modelling the clothes.

‘I then had at least one confirmed sale [who made the purchase simply because I used Danny to model the clothes].

‘They messaged me and said they loved the item they bought but it was Danny who was the selling point.

‘I’m glad my marketing skills worked.

‘I have 100% got a lot more views on my items since using Danny DeVito to model my clothes and at least one buyer has confirmed they bought an item because of Danny.

‘I used Vinted for over a year and only had two followers.

She added: ‘I have only been using Danny to sell my items for about a month.’

And it’s not just clothing the 35-year-old is selling using a Danny Devito cardboard cut-out, but accessories too

One sales post shows Danny modelling women’s sleepwear made of a crop top and matching shorts  

Gillian continued: ‘It’s bringing eyes to my wardrobe. People are seeing one of my items being modelled by Danny on their feed and then clicking on it and seeing all my other items.’ 

She said her partner Kevin Ford, 36, bought the Danny DeVito cutout during lockdown as the couple were big fans of the sitcom ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ where he plays the character Frank Reynolds.

The mother-of-one has now also created a miniature Danny cutout to model footwear and her 16-month-old daughter’s clothing on her Vinted wardrobe and says the customer will be gifted the mini photo of the actor when they buy these items.

Gillian said: ‘We [me and my partner] both love the show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and love Danny DeVito in this.

‘He’s a great Vinted model and my partner and I love Danny DeVito.

In one post, Gillian is selling a pair of pink Dorothy Perkins leggings on the Danny DeVito cut out for £2.50

Taking to Vinted, Gillian explained that she is have a ‘massive clear out’, including items from her daughter’s closet 

The Vinted seller has received several glowing reviews, and one gave Danny DeVito a special mention 

Social media users have hailed the 35-year-old’s sales technique on Vinted the ‘best thing ever’ 

‘I initially tried to change my account name to ‘dannydevinted’, which my partner suggested, as I thought this was genius, but you’re not allowed to put Vinted in your name.

‘This is when we decided on ‘dannydevinto’ and I actually prefer this and thought it was better.’

Last week, a user shared Gillian’s used clothing page to a Facebook Vinted group and avid second-hand shoppers went crazy for her clever play on words and clothes model.

One user said: ‘Omg I love this. I need a Danny DeVito clothes model.’

Another added: ‘This instantly triples in value.’

A third added: ‘Best thing ever!’

Vinted were contacted for comment.
