EastEnders Ben Mitchell struggles to protect Lexi as Jay ends up in hospital

EastEnders: Lola dies

EastEnders’ Ben Mitchell (played by Max Bowden) has given up on supporting grieving Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) in an effort to shield his daughter Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown), but he’s set to struggle in upcoming scenes.

Fans on the BBC soap have been left shocked as Jay has taken uncharacteristic methods to cope with his pain, such as drug use.

Because of this, the Mitchells have turned their back on him, and actor Jamie recently confirmed Jay would be involved in an accident in the coming days.

Schoolgirl Lexi doesn’t want to turn her back on her father figure, but Ben is determined to keep her safe.

Official spoilers reveal Ben will desperately try to shield Lexi from the reality of Jay’s situation.

However, Lexi is determined to be there for Jay and insists that Ben let her go to the hospital.

At Jay’s hospital bedside, Ben tries to make sense of what happened.

Meanwhile, Ben fears Lexi will face more heartache as the police arrive at the hospital with questions about Jay’s accident.

Speaking to Radio Times recently, Jamie recalled filming the difficult scenes.

“There is an accident at the house and after that, Jay just cannot cope anymore,” he revealed.

“He needs to get away from Walford because being around there is just causing nothing but carnage.”

Jay lost his wife Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) in May following a heartbreaking battle with a brain tumour.

Could Jay’s accident be drug-related? If so, Ben will be keen to keep Lexi far away from Jay, but will she be able to convince him to give Jay another chance?

Before she died, Lola arranged for Jay to adopt Lexi because she couldn’t trust that Ben would be responsible.

However, with Jay ending up being the one struggling to cope, will the Mitchells keep him out of Lexi’s life for good?

EastEnders continues on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
