Strictlys Adam Thomas could miss out on final as he shares health update

Strictly: Adam Thomas on his chances of winning

Adam Thomas has pleaded with fans “Don’t put your money on me” when asked about whether he could win Strictly Come Dancing.

The Waterloo Road star, who has Rheumatoid Arthritis, appeared on Thursday’s BBC Breakfast where he chatted with Naga Munchetty and Ben Thompson about his journey so far.

Adam sat on the sofa with his dance partner Luba Mushtuk as he admitted he “was getting there”.

“The nerves are still there but we are sort of getting there now,” he shared when discussing his Strictly training. “We have sort of got the routine sorted now.”

“I am doing well though, aren’t I?” he asked as he looked towards his dance partner who agreed.

He continued: “It’s just unbelievable. And yeah, like I said, like last week, it’s tough, she’s definitely putting me through my paces in the routine and steps.”

Naga went on to ask about his busy work schedule, with Adam explaining they were rehearsing for Strictly “in between takes” on the set of Waterloo Road.

Luba went on to describe Adam as her “dream partner”, telling the hosts: ” He always comes with a gorgeous smile on his face. He never complains.”

Adam laughed as he disagreed: “I’m always complaining.”

Talk quickly shifted to Adam’s health and who his biggest competition in the show was, with the soap star admitting his condition is affecting his Strictly training.

“I have got people messaging me as young as 10, you can get it so young which I didn’t realise,” he stated.

“So when I first got diagnosed with it, I was like, ‘Well, this is something that people get later on in their life’.

“But no, unfortunately, I’ve got it and you know, it is what it is. You know, we’re trying our best to get through it, and obviously, there are things that I can and cannot do, and some days are definitely tougher than others.”

However, when probed on whether he would make the final and win, Adam didn’t seem too confident about it.

Naga said: “We were chatting with the make-up team today, and the make-up team thinks you’re a dark horse.”

“If you’re a betting man, don’t put your money on me, trust me,” Adam laughed.

He later said: “I keep forgetting that this is a competition, I really do. Like I’ve seen a couple of the other celebrities dancing and put it this way, I am no threat.”

When asked who the better dancers were, Adam teased: “There are quite a few out there, but again, you know, I’m just concentrating on me, I am on my own little journey, and yeah, I’m just looking forward to getting on that dance floor.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
