The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh went into full Sherlock Holmes mode during the latest episode of the ITV quiz show as he questioned whether a contestant wanted to feed his wife to the sharks.

Upon his arrival on the show, player Alan expected no more than an opportunity to show off his quizzing prowess on the grandest stage of them all. However, he got a little bit more than he bargained for when he went face-to-face with the host during Wednesday's (October 26) instalment.

The HGV driver, who makes a living delivering alcohol to clubs and pubs across the Midlands, entered the competition with the idea of making enough money to treat his other half to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, Bradley wondered whether he has an alterior motive.

As he often does, the former Doctor Who star asked the contestant what he intends to do with the money should he wi, to which Alan replied: "I want to go back to Florida with my wife back to do Universal Studios. I want to go swimming with sharks as well."

Clearly appalled by the perceptual danger of entering the water with the fearsome predators, Bradley didn't shy away from giving his opinion. He said: "I'm not sure about that." The 63-year-old host quickly brightened up, asking: "What's your wife's name?" Happy to discuss the love of his life, Alan answered: "Becky."

Chuckling away, Brad beamed: "Let's get you and Becky off to swim with sharks," until a rogue thought crossed his mind, which he couldn't possibly keep to himself.

With a worried look on his face, he asked: "You're not trying to do her in, are you?" Shocked by the question, Alan answered: "No, no, no."

At this point, the Cash Builder, commenced. And despite a lack of knowledge on golf and cathedrals, he more than made up for it with his expertise on the human body and US government, accumulating an impressive £6000.

With a spring in his step, it was Alan's time to go head-to-head with The Dark Destroyer 'Shaun Wallace', who described the contestant's alcohol service as 'The fourth emergency service'.

Despite questions on snooker and genetically-modified animals falling right into his wheelhouse, Alan fell foul to a 'One Question Shootout'. However, with Brad clearly not really suspecting him of being a man capable of feeding his wife to sharks, he wished the contestant well and insisted that regardless of the loss, the trip to Flordia will "Definitely happen."
