The Crowns Elizabeth Debickis life off-screen from big move to dance career

The new series of Netflix's The Crown has been released and with Elizabeth Debicki returning to take on the role of Princess Diana.

Part one of season six of The Crown launched on the streaming platform in the UK today (Thursday 16 November) with four episodes available to watch. It shows the relationship between Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed before "a fateful car journey has devastating consequences".

Portraying Diana in her final days is Australian actress, Elizabeth Debicki, 33, who made her debut as the Princess of Wales in series five of The Crown.

Her previous performance earned her a string of nominations including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series and Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.

But away from her huge success in the royal series, what else do we know about the star and what else has she been in?

Who is Elizabeth Debicki?

Elizabeth was born in Paris, France on 24 August 1990 to a Polish father and an Australian mother of Irish descent. Her parents were ballet dancers and met while performing on stage together.

The eldest of three, Elizabeth has a younger sister and a brother, and when she was five years old the family moved to Melbourne, Australia. Following in her parent's footsteps Elizabeth trained as a dancer before deciding to focus on acting.

Movie fame

She went on to study drama at the Victorian College of the Arts in Australia and just a year after completing her degree made her film debut in the Australian film A Few Best Men in 2011. She soon shot to fame and that same year was announced to have been cast as Jordan Baker in the 2013 film adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

Her performance in The Great Gatsby earned Elizabeth the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Her acting career only grew and Elizabeth starred in movies such as Macbeth as Lady Macduff, Everest as Caroline Mackenzie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Ayesha and Breath as Eva.

She also did the voice of Mopsy Rabbit in Peter Rabbit the movie in 2018 before returning to the role in 2021 for Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.

Elizabeth also returned for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the same role as Ayesha in 2023.

Away from films, the actress has taken on a handful of TV roles, including in Rake as Missy, The Kettering Incident as Dr Anna Macy, The Night Manager as Jed Marshall and The Take playing the role of Mrs G.

But Elizabeth is best known for her main role as Diana, Princess of Wales in The Crown from season five and six.
