Edgar Allan Poe’s chilling tales find a new avatar in Netflix’s upcoming series, The Fall of the House of Usher.
Set to premiere on October 12, the series goes into the tumultuous Usher dynasty, centred on power siblings Roderick (played by Bruce Greenwood) and Madeline Usher.
The show is from the makers behind Netflix’s other hit horror shows The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor.
However, The Fall of the House of Usher is a very different beast from its predecessors.
Who is in the cast of The Fall of the House of Usher?
Roderick Usher – Bruce Greenwood
Bruce Greenwood, a Canadian-born actor, has appeared in titles such as Gerald’s Game, and I Robot with Will Smith.
Greenwood’s Roderick Usher, the empire’s patriarch and CEO, is depicted as a ruthless business magnate, uncompromising in his expectations for his children.
“He’s advanced without facing consequences,” Greenwood remarked in a Netflix interview.
Madeline Usher – Mary McDonnell
Mary McDonnell plays Madeline Usher, Roderick’s twin and the mastermind behind Fortunato.
Arthur Pym – Mark Hamill
Mark Hamill steps into the shoes of Arthur Pym, the Usher family’s unwavering lawyer, while Carl Lumbly takes on the role of C. Auguste Dupin, a nemesis from the Ushers’ past.
Hamill, another notable actor in the series, has appeared in both the 1977 and 2017 Star Wars movies as Luke Skywalker.
Frederick Usher – Henry Thomas
Henry Thomas is cast as Frederick Usher, the tormented heir to the Usher throne – Thomas commented on the duality and complexities of his character, linking them to real-life personalities. He is no stranger to the Netflix horror anthology franchise having also starred in both Bly Manor and Hill House.
Verna – Carla Gugino
Carla Gugino portrays Verna, a shape-shifting enigma, with the actress describing her role as a watchful observer, always curious about human choices.
Gugino made her big debut in 2001 starring in Spy Kids and also appeared in the movie San Andreas. She is another alumnus from both Hill House and Bly Manor.

Tamerlane Usher – Samantha Sloyan
Samantha Sloyan portrays Tamerlane Usher, second in line for leadership and striving to step away from traditional patriarchal constructs.
“She’s so driven to earn her father’s approval that she loses sight of everything else,” Sloyan said during the Netflix presser.
Flanagan’s Fall of the House of Usher is set in modern times, centring on a pharmaceutical company’s CEO whose children begin to randomly die.
