Adele honours brave Matthew Perry in emotional tribute at Las Vegas show

Adele has honoured the late Matthew Perry during a Halloween-themed live show in Las Vegas.

The Friends actor was found dead at his home in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday, 28 October and local police later confirmed that the incident was being treated as a water rescue.

Following the news, Adele, 35, paid tribute to Matthew, 54, during her latest Las Vegas residency show, as reported by the LA Times.

Whilst celebrating Halloween and dressed as the Addams family matriarch, Morticia, the singer began by addressing the audience at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

“It is always so shocking, especially someone that made you laugh and who bought so much joy to your life that you don’t know,” she said.

“This is what I find so strange, I never met him in my life. There is something, you feel so sad about it especially because you don’t necessarily know what was going on.”

Adele went on to say that she will remember Matthew’s iconic portrayal of the fictional Chandler Bing for “the rest of my life” before she claimed that he is “probably the best comedic character of all time”.

During the introduction to her song When We Were Young, Adele often moves around the room and asks the audience for their childhood memories.

However, during Saturday’s show, she dedicated the song to Perry and got candid regarding her own childhood memories.

“One of my friends Andrew when I was, like, 12 did the best Chandler impression,” she explained. “He would do it all the time to make us laugh and if any of us were having a bad day or feeling low he would just pretend to be Chandler.”

The mum-of-one also continued to call Matthew “brave” after opening up about his issues with alcohol and drug addiction last year in his autobiography, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir.

“He was so open with his struggles with addiction and sobriety, which I think is incredibly, incredibly brave,” she added.

The praise for The Triumph star comes weeks after Adele admitted she herself had stopped drinking alcohol three and a half months ago.

Speaking again at her Nevada-based residency, the 35-year-old said: “I stopped drinking maybe like three and a half months ago.

The MailOnline reports that she continued: “It’s boring. I mean, I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my twenties, but I miss it so much. I cut out caffeine.”

Adele has also discussed her own relationship with drinking in the past, telling her Las Vegas audience: “I remember when I came here in Covid, in lockdown, it was like 11am and I and I was definitely like four bottles of wine in – like we all were,” the Daily Star reported.

An investigation into Matthew’s death is ongoing however, there was no apparent foul play and there is yet to be a confirmed cause of death.

TMZ and the LA Times reported that the 54-year-old had drowned in a hot tub or a Jacuzzi.
