Def Jams August 08 who co-wrote for Justin Bieber and DJ Khaled dies aged 31

August 08’s family and former record label 88rising have announced he has died aged 31.

The singer’s mother Mena took to Instagram to share various pictures of him alongside a heartfelt tribute.

She wrote: “It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved son, brother, uncle, singer, songwriter, musician and mentor Ray Davon Jacobs, also known as August 08.

“He will continue to blossom and spread his love through hus music.”

Def Jam Recordings have also paid tribute to the late performer, who wrote songs for Justin Bieber and DJ Khaled.

Taking to Twitter, they wrote: “The entire Def Jam family mourns the tragic loss of Ray ‘August 08’ Jacobs.

“A brilliant songwriter, an accomplished musician and a singular artist, August will remain in our memory as a beloved colleague and friend.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.”

A cause of death is currently unknown.

August 08 was signed to Def Jam Records and Jhene Aiko’s Allel Sound imprint.

He previously aligned with music recording company 88rising, where he worked with Joji on his Seasick album titled What We Used To Be.

Earlier this month, he thanked fans for their support following his gig with Jhene at the Toyota Arena, in what was his final Instagram post.

The singer shared a picture of himself backstage alongside manager Tre Carson with the caption: “Thank You everyone who came out last night to see me support my family @jheneaiko!

“Hope to see you all soon: @artclubchief had some technical difficulties but we got through to try and give you the best show we can! I love y’all 4ever.”
