The Crown’s last series delves into some of the key moments with the Royal Family in Tony Blair’s career as Prime Minister so who plays him?

The Netflix drama that has been putting the Royal Family under the microscope since 2016 has come to an end with the last ever episodes dropped on the streamer.

In season six, part two, subscribers once again see Tony Blair (played by Bertie Carvel) who featured in the first half following the death of Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki).

The former Prime Minister plays a prominent role in episode six, Ruritania, where the Queen (Imelda Staunton) is shown asking for his help in boosting the monarchy’s popularity.

Blair, along with his team of advisors, then set out to provide Her Majesty with a list of improvements, including making cutbacks in certain areas.

Who plays Tony Blair in The Crown season 6 part 2?

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair is portrayed by actor Bertie Carvel in The Crown season six, part two.

Carvel was also behind Blair in season five and was first seen in season six’s fifth episode when he recreated the famous “New Dawn” speech after winning the election.

Opening up to Netflix about the scene, Carvel said he considered it “an incredible moment for me because I remember that moment [in real life], and I remember what it felt like.

“It felt like a ‘new dawn’ has broken, has it not? It really felt like a burst of hope.”

Carvel has starred in a number of popular dramas over the years and many will remember him as Simon Foster in the hit BBC series Doctor Foster with Suranne Jones and Jodie Comer.

Bar this, he has also been in The Pale Horse, Baghdad Central, The Sister and took on the role of another politician, Nick Clegg, in the TV movie Coalition.

He was awarded for his acting efforts as well when he played Rupert Murdoch in CBS’ Ink, winning a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

This wasn’t the only time Carvel won a Laurence Olivier Award either as he was given the accolade for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for playing Miss Trunchball in Matilda the Musical.

The Crown is available to watch on Netflix.
