Amy Dowden on how Strictly friendships ‘saved her life’
Amy Dowden has opened up about her breast cancer journey and has credited Strictly Come Dancing and her former dance partner Tom Fletcher and his wife Giovanna Fletcher for saving her life.
The 33-year-old appeared on today’s episode of Loose Women and told the ladies that the BBC One show and the friendships she made from it acted as a cacatalyst for detecting her cancer.
She expressed: “I’d only recently started checking my breasts, I went on the CoppaFeel! trek with Giovanna (Fletcher), I was partnered with Tom Fletcher.
“That’s the wonderful thing about Strictly is the friendships it creates and the Fletchers opened me into their family.”
The Welsh native went on to reveal that she went on a trek with Giovanna, 38, and after being told breast cancer stories by other women, she decided to check her own breasts and that’s when she found her lump.

“So potentially CopperFeel and the Fletchers and Strictly partnering me with the Fletcher’s has now saved my life,” the BBC star divulged.
Amy met Tom, 38, and his wife Giovanna when the pair were partnered on Strictly for the 19th series in 2021.
Despite the pair being eliminated on week nine, Amy and Tom, as well as Giovanna, have become firm friends.
Amy was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in the spring and as a result, she announced earlier this year that she wouldn’t be competing with a celebrity on this year’s Strictly.
